Another quick and easy thing to try. Change the oil and filter. I know it sounds too simple, but moisture in the oil or breakdown of the oil can affect clutch performance and shifting. You might even try changing to a synthetic motorcycle oil if you don't mind spending the money. Normal motorcycle oil is what I recommend. I also recommend you do not use automobile oil, it's not made for motorcycles and the Savage is very dependent on good oil performance.
